The Chair of Finance, specializing in Climate Finance (Prof. Dr. Sebastian Utz, Faculty of Business and Economics / Centre for Climate Resilience) at the University of Augsburg is seeking to fill the following position as a

Doctoral Researcher

within the framework of the research project „The impact of ESG ratings on company-level information asymmetry in financial markets“ as soon as possible.

The position is part-time (75%) and runs for a fixed period of three years. The salary will be according to the TV-L 13 pay grade if the prerequisites are met. The position is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

About us: At the Chair of Finance, specializing in Climate Finance, we develop solutions to empirically measure and quantify risks associated with the economic transformation towards a Green Economy. To this end, we examine the impact of climate and sustainability metrics on the capital market and address current issues related to sustainable and green investment and financing strategies.

Your role: Within the framework of the research project, you will investigate whether Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ratings influence information asymmetry in financial markets. Your goal is to present your research findings at (inter)national conferences and publish them in leading academic journals.

Your profile: You hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, economics, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, business informatics) with above-average grades. Additionally, you possess the following qualities:

  • Interest in financial research questions
  • Affinity for systematic thinking and empirical work
  • Enjoyment of independent work
  • High level of teamwork, organizational skills, and reliability
  • Excellent knowledge of empirical research methods/statistics and at least one programming language (e.g., R, Python, Stata)
  • Very good English language skills, German language skills are advantageous
