PhD Program in Finance & Research Assistant Positions, School of Finance, University of St. Gallen
The Ph.D. programme in Finance (PiF) is a structured program tailored towards a high-quality and internationally orientated education in financial research. It prepares students to pursue an academic career or to take up an applied research position in a central bank, an international policy institution or in the financial sector.
The University of St. Gallen is one of the most renowned universities in the fields of finance, economics, and business in Europe (it ranks, for example, 4th among European Business Schools according to the Financial Times). The program is offered by the School of Finance, one of the largest finance departments in Europe.
Multiple positions are currently available for students to start the PiF programme in September 2020. Admitted candidates will also be hired as research and teaching assistants at their supervisor's chair for the full duration of their PhD studies. In some cases, applicants can start as assistants already before September.
For details on potential supervisors and their area of research please check our webpage. After your application, we will try to match you with a supervisor for your PhD studies. Only matched candidates will be admitted to the PhD program.
The salary for research assistants may vary depending on the contract offered by the supervisors. For example, someone who finishes her master's degree right before starting the PhD and obtains a 50% research assistant position earns about 41500 CHF per year. If this person has a 70% research assistant position two years later, she receives about 60500 CHF. In addition, the PiF program offers generous funding for conference attendance.
Review Dates and Applications:
Two reviews of the applications will take place for a start in 2020:
- November 15, 2019. Candidates who wish to maximize their chances of success should apply before this deadline. Only a few candidates will be matched right after this deadline and applications of candidates who are not matched immediately will be considered again at the next review date. Only apply before November 15 if you can commit to accepting a PhD position within this calendar year!
- January 31, 2020. We aim at matching all available supervisors to PhD candidates as soon as possible after this date.
